Living your life to the fullest in 2016

This is the beginning of a new year. A chance to start fresh. A chance to start out on the right foot, doing all the things you wish you would have done in 2015, or maybe not doing some things you were doing. Why not go into 2016 with an attitude that this will be your year. This will be the year that you grow more than ever in your relationship with God. This will be the year where you will reach new heights and new levels in your relationship with Christ. I want you to read and concentrate on the words of Jesus in John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. If you do not already know this I will be glad to be the one to break it to you. You can have no life apart from Christ. Jesus is your source of life. You may be saying what do you mean He is my source of life? I am alive and well and I have never had anything to do with Jesus. Yes you may be physically alive and well, but spiritually you are dead. The Word of God says in Ephesians 2:1 And you hath He quickened (made alive) who were dead in trespasses and sins. Your sin seperates you from a living relationship with God. And I am not going to get to deep into all the details because I am really wanting to focus on the latter part of John 10:10. But on the other hand I never want to miss an oppurtunity to tell you how you can have eternal life . Because we are all sinners (Romans 3:23) We all deserve death and to spend an eternity in hell suffering the eternal punishment for our sins (Romans 6:23) The only way we can be freed from this sin curse is by this curse being placed on someone else as our substitute or sacrifice. Jesus says in John 14:6 That I am the Way the Truth and the LIFE. No man cometh unto the Father but by me. Because Jesus was born of a virgin He was not under the sin curse that we have fallen into. And becasue he is 100 percent God and 100 percent man, He is the only one that can pay the sin debt that we owe. And all that believe the gospel have life through Him. Now I said all of that really to get to the last part of this verse. He is not only the source of our life, but He and He alone is the source of our life more abundantly. I believe Christians recieve the life through Christ, but they miss out on the life more abundant. We as Christians should be the most joyful, excited, peaceful, and pleasent people to be around but I'm afraid many times Christians are the most hateful, cruel, condemning, and bitter people to be around. The reason for that is that many of us are not reaching our life more abundant. You live your life but you are not really living it to the fullest. Everyday is a struggle to get going. You feel defeated and depressed. You life is full of worry, doubt, fear, and distractions. It is time for you to make a change in 2016. I'm reminded of the nation of Israel and how God brought them out of Egypt by many miracles. This is a beautiful picture of the salvation of a believer that God brought out of the bondage of sin. But God's plan for Israel was not just to be freed from Egypt (which is a type and picture of sin) but for them to go on to Canaan Land. And I believe Canaan land is a picture of the victorious more abundant life that we have when we surrender our life to God and rest in the promises of His Word. Just as the nation of Israel, You are stuck in the wilderness in between the bondage you have been set free from and the blessing you have not recieved yet. Maybe your saying well how do I get that blessing? How do I live a more abundant life and live life to the fullest? You may not like to hear this, but the only way you are going to have victory is if you fight for it. Nobody is going to give it to you. You have to stand up and fight for victory. Salvation is easy. It is a complete work of God and all we have to do is believe. But the next step involves you taking up your cross and following Jesus. It is a constant battle against three primary enemies. The devil, the world, and your flesh are constanly trying to hold you in defeat and in bondage. The sad thing is many people just become content living a defeated life because they do not even realize they are in a spiritual battle. God has more for you than what you have been experiencing. He wants to pour out an abundance of blessings on you but He can not help you if you are not willing to help yourself. I can not help you if you are not willing to help yourself, and the church can not help if you are not willing to help yourself. You can not find victory in the bar rooms. You can not find victory in drugs or alcohol, you can not find victory or experience an abundant life through money or wealth, but I promise you will have such peace, joy, and love in your heart if you would just follow Christ.

I believe Hebrews 12:1-2 gives us the solution to obtaining this abundant life. First thing I see we need to do is lay aside every weight. Whatever was holding you back in 2015, lay it down in 2016. I do not have to go in great detail on this subject because you already know exactly what was holding you back. Maybe your being drug down with the weight of worry. Your scared about what is going to happen around every corner. Maybe your being weighted down with weakness. You think your not strong enough, smart enough, or talented enough to do what God is calling you to do. Maybe your being weighted down with unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, guilt, past mistakes....etc. Whatever that weight is I know someone who will take that weight off of you and take it on Himself. Lay that weight at the saviors feet. Do not let it hold you back from running your race set before you in 2016. Another thing Hebrews 12:1 says is to lay aside that sin. Just as you know the weight that is holding you back, I believe you already have in mind that certain sin that the devil uses to trip you up when you start to make progress towards your abundant life. Lay down that sin, abstain from any appearance of evil, resist the devil and he will flee from you. You say well it is just a little sin that I like to do for fun. It is not hurting anybody. Yes it severely hurting you. Remember the enemy wants to kill steal and destroy you. He is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He wants to steal your joy, kill your testimony, and destroy your life. Believe me that little sin is not worth keeping you from living your life to the fullest.

I can not think of any way to sum this up better than the Word of God does in Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus. let that be your motto going into 2016. Every morning when you wake look unto Jesus. When the pressures of the world start making you overwhelmed look unto Jesus. When the weight is piling up on you and the sin is creeping in your life tripping you up look unto Jesus. He is still the answer to whatever problem you are facing. You may be saying well that is easy for you to say. You did not have the year that I had. You did not go through the things I went through. Fair eneough. Your right I didn't. But The Bible says in Hebrews 4:15 that we have not a High Priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities. You say 2015 was the loniest year of my life. Look unto Jesus who felt the deep pain of lonliness and rejection more in a few hours on the cross than you will experience in 100 life times. You say well I suffered phyical pain this past year. Look unto Jesus who suffered more physical pain on the cross than you will ever suffer. You say well I am just physically, emotionally, and spiritually drained from this year. Look unto Jesus who was more physically, emotionally, and spiritually drained than any human being could ever imagined. He sweat drops of blood praying to the Father to let this cup pass, but then He proclaimed "Not my will but thine Oh Lord". I may not can relate with a thing you are going through, but I know someone who knows every pain you feel, every tear you cry, and every dark trail that comes your way. He loved you so much and wanted a relationship with you so much that He endured the cross despising the shame, and is now set down at the right hand of the throne of God. And I want to remind you Because He lives we can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future and life is worth the living just because He lives. It is not just worth living, but worth living to the fullest. Do not waste another day living in defeat. Live your life to the fullest, claim the promises of God, rest in the promises of God, trust Him with your life, surrender completely to His will, fully trust in Him and fall into His arms of grace. Live your life to the fullest in 2016! I pray for God's blessings to you and your family in 2016.

God bless, Jarrett Wells

You Are Not Alone

One thing that is universal is that we will all face struggles in our life. We will all go through seasons of hurt, pain, anxiety, stress, heartache, and lonliness. Sometimes during tragic situations you may feel all these emotions at once. But the thing that seperates christians is that we do not have to face these struggles alone. We know that we have a mighty God that is with us every step of the way. In Isaiah 41:10 we find words of comfort from God. I would encourage you to memorize this verse word by word and have it readily available when hard times arrive in your life. I want us to break this verse down and pull out some truths that are in it that will comfort us even in the deepest of valleys of life. Isaiah 41:10 says Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righeousness.

There are two commands in this verse. The first is to fear not. I believe one of the greatest obstacles that christians face is fear. Fear holds you back from victory. Fear robs you of what God has prepared for you. I believe we miss out on so many blessings because we let fear hold us back. You would step out in faith, trust God, and follow His will for your life but fear is holding you in your comfort zone and holding back your spiritual growth. Paul said in II Timothy that God did not give us the sprit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. The second is to be not dismayed or be not discouraged. This is another great obstacle many struggle with. The weight of your burdens has you discouraged and defeated. You walk around carrying all these problems on your back and it's keeping you from reaching your full potential in Christ.

God gives us two commands and rests them on five pillars of truth. The first two I want to combine togethor and that is "I am with thee and I am your God". I believe the most comforting words you can hear when your faced with a trail and suffering from fear or discouragment is that you are not alone. He is YOUR God and He is with YOU. Before God goes on to say what He will do, He first lets you know who He is and where He is. He is your God and He is with you. When someone you know (wether it's your spouse, kids, family or friends) is going through a hard time, we automatically want to try to fix the problem. We want to say just the right thing or give just the right verse. But the most comforting thing you can do for someone is to just let them know you are there for them.  Rest assured that God is with you

Because He is with you He will strengthen you. Psalms 46:1 says that God is your strength. The main way God strengthens His own is by getting us to a point of weakness where we realize that our strength lies not in ourselves, but in Him alone. The more you grow as a christian the more you realize how weak you are. Paul learned this when he was battling an infirmity that he thought was holding Him back. He cried to God to remove it three times, but God had other plans. He told him He wouldn't remove it because it was keeping Him weak and Gods strength is made perfect in weakness. He kept him in a constant life of dependance on God and ensured Him that His grace alone was sufficient. If you feel so weak that you think you cant go on then you are right where God wants you. Where your stregth fails, God's strength prevails.

Because God is with you He will save you. Isaiah 41:10 proclaims He will help you. In Psalms 46:1 we also see that he is a very present help in the day of trouble. The reason He is a very present help is because as we have already said earlier, He is with us. If you are a christian you have God ready and willing to rescue you from all your troubles. He will fight your battles for you. In fact He will go before you and fight your battles. All He asks from you is to just trust in Him because the battle is not your's but God's. He is your Father and He loves you. But with that being said, never let someone tell you that "God will not give you more than you can handle" He most certainly will give you more than you can handle. If he only gave you what you could handle then you would think you can get along just fine without Him. Sometimes He may give us more than we can handle to bring us to realize how weak we are and that we have to depend entirely on Him.

Because God is with you we see in this verse that God will sustain you or uphold you. Maybe circumstances and burdens of life have you so weighted down that you feel like you can't take another step or you will collapse. You just feel like giving up. You feel that nothing is going right and it is time to throw in the towel. If that is you I want you to just take a deep breath and remember the Word of God says that He will not only help you and save you, but He will also sustain you. I want to refer back to Psalms 46 one more time and point out that God is our refuge. A refuge is a shelter or protection from danger or distress. God is fully capable of calming that storm in your life, but that is not always the way God works. He may not always calm the storm in your life, and He may not always take you out of the storm, but He does promise that He is your refuge from the storm, and that He will protect you and cover you from the storm. He may allow you to walk through the valley of the shadow of death, but He has promised that He is with you and His rod and staff will comfort you. He will give you peace in the midst of the storm. And I want you to notice how He upholds you. The Word of God says with the right hand of His righeousness. I believe this is referring to the one who is seated at the right hand of God. The one who has power and authority over all creation. The one who conquered death and hell and has given us life and life abundantly. This verse has promised us His help, His strength, and His presence and we have all of these through Jesus our Lord and Savior. He is the reason we are able to face another day. He is the answer to your problem. He is the one that will give you joy when your depressed. He is the one that will give you peace when your distressed. He is the one that says come unto me when your weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. He is the one who says cast all your cares upon me for I careth for you. I do not know what your struggling with but Jesus does. I can not relate to your pain, but Jesus can. He has experienced more physical pain, mental anguish, and temptation than you will ever experience. The Bible says He is touched with the feelings of our infirmities and He has compassion on us because He knows that we struggle. But He has given you every opportunity, every precious promise, and every spiritual blessing that you need to have victory in this life. You do not have to live your life defeated and depressed. You have the almighty God on your side and He is with you to strengthen you, save you, and sustain you.... IF you have put your faith and trust in Him as your personal Savior. If you do not know Him as your Savior, Today is the day of salvation for you.
