You Are Not Alone

One thing that is universal is that we will all face struggles in our life. We will all go through seasons of hurt, pain, anxiety, stress, heartache, and lonliness. Sometimes during tragic situations you may feel all these emotions at once. But the thing that seperates christians is that we do not have to face these struggles alone. We know that we have a mighty God that is with us every step of the way. In Isaiah 41:10 we find words of comfort from God. I would encourage you to memorize this verse word by word and have it readily available when hard times arrive in your life. I want us to break this verse down and pull out some truths that are in it that will comfort us even in the deepest of valleys of life. Isaiah 41:10 says Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righeousness.

There are two commands in this verse. The first is to fear not. I believe one of the greatest obstacles that christians face is fear. Fear holds you back from victory. Fear robs you of what God has prepared for you. I believe we miss out on so many blessings because we let fear hold us back. You would step out in faith, trust God, and follow His will for your life but fear is holding you in your comfort zone and holding back your spiritual growth. Paul said in II Timothy that God did not give us the sprit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. The second is to be not dismayed or be not discouraged. This is another great obstacle many struggle with. The weight of your burdens has you discouraged and defeated. You walk around carrying all these problems on your back and it's keeping you from reaching your full potential in Christ.

God gives us two commands and rests them on five pillars of truth. The first two I want to combine togethor and that is "I am with thee and I am your God". I believe the most comforting words you can hear when your faced with a trail and suffering from fear or discouragment is that you are not alone. He is YOUR God and He is with YOU. Before God goes on to say what He will do, He first lets you know who He is and where He is. He is your God and He is with you. When someone you know (wether it's your spouse, kids, family or friends) is going through a hard time, we automatically want to try to fix the problem. We want to say just the right thing or give just the right verse. But the most comforting thing you can do for someone is to just let them know you are there for them.  Rest assured that God is with you

Because He is with you He will strengthen you. Psalms 46:1 says that God is your strength. The main way God strengthens His own is by getting us to a point of weakness where we realize that our strength lies not in ourselves, but in Him alone. The more you grow as a christian the more you realize how weak you are. Paul learned this when he was battling an infirmity that he thought was holding Him back. He cried to God to remove it three times, but God had other plans. He told him He wouldn't remove it because it was keeping Him weak and Gods strength is made perfect in weakness. He kept him in a constant life of dependance on God and ensured Him that His grace alone was sufficient. If you feel so weak that you think you cant go on then you are right where God wants you. Where your stregth fails, God's strength prevails.

Because God is with you He will save you. Isaiah 41:10 proclaims He will help you. In Psalms 46:1 we also see that he is a very present help in the day of trouble. The reason He is a very present help is because as we have already said earlier, He is with us. If you are a christian you have God ready and willing to rescue you from all your troubles. He will fight your battles for you. In fact He will go before you and fight your battles. All He asks from you is to just trust in Him because the battle is not your's but God's. He is your Father and He loves you. But with that being said, never let someone tell you that "God will not give you more than you can handle" He most certainly will give you more than you can handle. If he only gave you what you could handle then you would think you can get along just fine without Him. Sometimes He may give us more than we can handle to bring us to realize how weak we are and that we have to depend entirely on Him.

Because God is with you we see in this verse that God will sustain you or uphold you. Maybe circumstances and burdens of life have you so weighted down that you feel like you can't take another step or you will collapse. You just feel like giving up. You feel that nothing is going right and it is time to throw in the towel. If that is you I want you to just take a deep breath and remember the Word of God says that He will not only help you and save you, but He will also sustain you. I want to refer back to Psalms 46 one more time and point out that God is our refuge. A refuge is a shelter or protection from danger or distress. God is fully capable of calming that storm in your life, but that is not always the way God works. He may not always calm the storm in your life, and He may not always take you out of the storm, but He does promise that He is your refuge from the storm, and that He will protect you and cover you from the storm. He may allow you to walk through the valley of the shadow of death, but He has promised that He is with you and His rod and staff will comfort you. He will give you peace in the midst of the storm. And I want you to notice how He upholds you. The Word of God says with the right hand of His righeousness. I believe this is referring to the one who is seated at the right hand of God. The one who has power and authority over all creation. The one who conquered death and hell and has given us life and life abundantly. This verse has promised us His help, His strength, and His presence and we have all of these through Jesus our Lord and Savior. He is the reason we are able to face another day. He is the answer to your problem. He is the one that will give you joy when your depressed. He is the one that will give you peace when your distressed. He is the one that says come unto me when your weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. He is the one who says cast all your cares upon me for I careth for you. I do not know what your struggling with but Jesus does. I can not relate to your pain, but Jesus can. He has experienced more physical pain, mental anguish, and temptation than you will ever experience. The Bible says He is touched with the feelings of our infirmities and He has compassion on us because He knows that we struggle. But He has given you every opportunity, every precious promise, and every spiritual blessing that you need to have victory in this life. You do not have to live your life defeated and depressed. You have the almighty God on your side and He is with you to strengthen you, save you, and sustain you.... IF you have put your faith and trust in Him as your personal Savior. If you do not know Him as your Savior, Today is the day of salvation for you.
